Honestly, when I grabbed this, I thought it was beer. I was assembling one of those make-it-yourself 6 packs, and this was right next to all the other beer. Well, look out, Mexico... wait. This is from New York? Is that good? I know nothing about Mexican-style sodas from New York.
It looks like soda. The semi-translucent, yellow-orange liquid produces some bubbles, but they scurry away very quickly. Scant points of nucleation will remind me that this has carbonation, but it looks kind of... dead. The aroma is more peach than pineapple, and I don't know what to attribute that to. There is pineapple in there, though, and it is sweet and tangy smelling.
First sip is shockingly not bad. I expected this to be over the top with flavor, but it's much more subdued. It relaxes with a mild pineapple on a relatively syrupy bed that certainly tells me that they added a bunch of sugar to this beverage to get to their 259 calories in a single serving. That's more calories than a bottle of Coke.
Tip-in is smooth tropical blend that eventually tells me that it is pineapple-based while carbonation does absolutely nothing. The middle flows nicely down the throat with that syrupy thickness added to a more discernable pineapple as carbonation starts to peek out from under everything. The finish is off, as the alcohol doesn't know where to hide and the pineapple turns to husk and tartness.
Bottom Line: It was an experience, and I don't really need to have it again.
