I don't have a good memory. This isn't necessarily something to be ashamed of, as I can't really help it. It's just part of who I am at this point. I know I had Space Cake before, but I don't remember much about it. Going back and looking at my review, it appears I wasn't a massive fan. Nevertheless, I saw this beer at the local store, and it was a limited release! I don't know how limited, and I don't know why it's limited at all. It's my understanding that you get haze from a beer just by not filtering it as much. I'm hoping this actually taste different, and that it tastes better than the beer it's based on.
This is a golden bronze color, and I'm pretty sure that's the same color the original beer was. This has lots of little bits of white stuff hanging suspended in the beer itself. Around those, the beer has a slight haze to it. Not sure I would go so far as to call this particularly hazy. The head seems appropriate for the beer at about an inch thick when poured, and it boils down to a complete covering with a dense patch in the middle and a strong ring around the sides that holds up some lacing. The aroma is sweet honey, and that is definitely not what I remember from the last one. It has bread that is fresh-baked smooshed around with the honey, and it's pretty inviting.First sip is smooth and laced with honey and toffee. It is sweet, but it's certainly not overly sweet. Carbonation pretty much isn't entering the picture at any point, and that's just fine by me. There might've been a little bite from hops at the beginning of the beer, but it is only a shadow of bitterness at the end. This is particularly smooth. I think I use the word smooth several times in the previous review, and this is going to get those, too. Let's hope a swig performs better than the regular Space Cake.
Tip-in is bitterness that is fleeting as soon as it is introduced, and the sweet honey and molasses are enjoying a bit of a floral bed. The previous beer had a middle that was a letdown, but this one isn't. This continues to be sweet, smooth, and it is particularly thick through the center of the mouth. The finish has some floral bitterness that caps the sweetness of the middle section of the beer, and I think it does a good job of complementing it.
Bottom Line: I don't think they should limit this release.
