For a while, I used to drink a bottle of Simply Orange juice every day. I much preferred it to Tropicana or other competitors because it was not made from concentrate. I really felt like you can taste the difference between the juice that was never concentrated and the stuff that was. When Simply Lemonade came out, I tried it, and it was very good. I found it to be a little too sweet for my liking, but I assumed it had the same conceit that it was never from concentrate. I have glanced at this can, and lemon juice from concentrate is the fourth ingredient. Maybe they did this right, and maybe they didn't do this right. I guess we'll find out.
First sip is better than it smelled. The alcohol isn't quite as strong, but the lemonade isn't strong enough. I noticed that this had both cane sugar and Stevia listed under the ingredients, so I expected it to be overly sweet, much like the regular Simply Lemonade. I think I would prefer this to be overly sweet rather than overly alcohol, but this is kind of sitting in the middle - unable to pick what flavor it wants to go with. As a result, the alcohol seems to be winning.
Tip-in is moderate carbonation with lemons, possible lime, and a seemingly restrained alcohol. The middle becomes a raucous of carbonation on the roof of the mouth while lemons and alcohol shift underneath in a watery bath. The finish is a hit of sweetness before alcohol-laden lemons grab on for the trail off.
Bottom Line: This might be refreshing on the right day, but it's not going to be flavorful on any day.
