Yeah, 5% seems about right for a session IPA. I don't know if "Air Bath" is in reference to the relatively ephemeral nature of a session beer or if it's implying that there will be a ton of head in an overly-carbonated beverage. This is the price you pay when your marketing team is too into subtlety when naming the beer instead of actually telling the user something useful. Let's see what the boys from Memphis have to offer!
Cracking the can results in a bunch of bubbles right off the bat, but I don't think that is what "Air Bath" referred to. I say this because there is a full, yet reasonable head that comes out when pouring the beverage, and I don't have any issue with overflowing. The head sticks around impressively at slightly over an inch of foam atop the hazy yellow liquid. The aroma is oddly sweet citrus fruits. I expected bitterness or something, but this smells really good.
First sip is a flash in the pan of flavor followed by a dull bitterness. The flavor that was there (very briefly) was citrus over tropics and seemed like it might get refreshing. Then, the taste faded away swiftly and was replaced with that shadow of bitterness. It's not strong enough to be objectionable on its own, but the flavor didn't really have a chance to spread out and enjoy itself before the bitter descension.
Tip-in is cold (like it's retaining cold more than normal) with carbonation sizzle, a little bitterness, and even less fruit taste. The middle comes in with a very nice mix of fruits that aren't too sweet or bitter, and no flavor of mango or grapefruit seems to dominate the others. The finish is too much bitterness as the fruits try to separate themselves into components in an undignified manner before bittering into the trail off.
